Transport Options at BUD
Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport is connected to Budapest and the wider Hungary transport network by multiple ground transport options.
The 100E express bus runs direct to Deák Ferenc tér in downtown Pest in about 35-40 minutes for a premium fare (roughly 2,200-2,500 HUF, cash or contactless on board or via the BKK app); the cheaper regular bus 200E connects instead to the Kőbánya-Kispest metro terminus (M3 line) for a standard public-transport fare if you're heading further afield or want to save money.
Főtaxi holds the exclusive concession to operate from the airport rank; typical fares to the city center run roughly 8,000-14,000 HUF (about EUR 25-40, including an airport surcharge) for a 25-40 minute ride depending on traffic and destination zone.
Bolt is widely used and generally cheaper than Főtaxi with upfront in-app pricing; Uber returned to Budapest in 2024 after an eight-year absence (it was suspended in 2016 amid taxi-industry protests) and now also operates, though fares can surge during peak demand.
All major international rental agencies have desks in the arrivals hall.
Budapest airport currently has no direct rail link into the city (a long-standing gap in an otherwise rail-heavy country) — a rapid rail connection has finally been approved and is in progress, but isn't operational yet as of 2026, so bus, Főtaxi or Bolt/Uber remain the only options. The classic airport trap is 'friendly' unofficial touts inside the terminal offering a taxi — only Főtaxi is licensed to pick up at the rank, so ignore anyone approaching you before you reach the official queue or your rideshare pickup point.
