Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is connected to Mumbai and the wider India transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) now serves the airport directly via the T2 metro station, opened in October 2024 — since August 2025 a covered bridge connects Exit 1A to the terminal in about 100 meters, making this the newest and most traffic-proof way into the city.
BEST buses connect the airport to various city routes at low cost, but are recommended mainly for travelers already familiar with Mumbai's local bus system rather than first-time visitors.
Government-regulated prepaid taxi counters in Arrivals post fixed fares to South Mumbai and other zones — the safest option if you're new to the city; metered taxis are also available but fares vary more with traffic.
Uber and Ola operate from designated pickup areas; app fares are quoted upfront but surge pricing is common in peak hours or heavy monsoon rain.
Rental counters are available in both terminals, but self-driving in Mumbai's dense traffic is rarely worth it — a hired car with driver, taxi or the new metro link are all more practical.
The airport sits about 30km north of South Mumbai; a taxi to South Mumbai can take 45-90 minutes in daytime traffic versus as little as 45 minutes after midnight, so factor real buffer time into any daytime connection.
