Transport Options at BKK
Suvarnabhumi Airport is connected to Bangkok and the wider Thailand transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Airport Rail Link (ARL) City Line runs 8 stations from Suvarnabhumi to Phaya Thai in about 30 minutes (roughly THB 15-45, distance-based, contactless card tap-to-pay now accepted). Phaya Thai connects to the BTS Skytrain via an elevated walkway; Makkasan connects to the MRT Blue Line at Phetchaburi (7-10 min covered walkway); Hua Mak connects to the MRT Yellow Line. Runs roughly 05:30-midnight.
Public buses serve multiple Bangkok routes from the ground transportation level — the cheapest option, at the cost of longer travel time in traffic.
Public taxis queue at a metered rank on the arrivals level — take a numbered ticket from the machine before joining the queue. Fare is the meter reading plus an airport pickup surcharge and any expressway tolls, payable by the passenger.
Ride-hailing apps operate from designated pickup zones separate from the taxi rank.
Major international and local rental companies have counters in the arrivals hall.
For BTS-side destinations (Silom, Sukhumvit), ride the City Line to Phaya Thai and transfer — it's usually faster and cheaper than a taxi in daytime traffic.
