Rail & Metro

There's no direct rail line to the airport — take the AirportLink bus (every 10 minutes, 4:30am-12:40am) to Puhinui Station, then connect onto the Southern or Eastern Line train into central Auckland, for under NZ$15 (under NZ$10 with an AT HOP card).

Bus & Shuttle

The SkyDrive Bus (which replaced the former SkyBus) runs a non-stop express service to Sky City on Hobson Street for under NZ$20, taking about 35 minutes (longer 8-10am and 3-6pm), departing every 30 minutes from 5am-10:30pm.

Taxi

Metered taxis are available with fares typically NZ$62-105 depending on destination and traffic — economical for groups splitting the fare.

Rideshare

Uber operates with an airport surcharge (NZ$3.50 drop-off, NZ$5.50 pickup) on top of the typical NZ$62-80 fare.

Car Rental

Major agencies operate on-site; useful for exploring beyond Auckland, such as the Coromandel or Waikato, though not necessary for a city-only stay.

Insider tip

The train-plus-bus combination via Puhinui Station is the best value if you're not in a rush and traveling light — roughly half the price of the SkyDrive express bus for a similar total travel time once you include waiting and transfers.
