History

Zoom Airlines was founded in May 2002 by Scottish brothers John and Hugh Boyle, who had previously run UK travel companies Falcon Holidays and Direct Holidays, and it launched as a transatlantic charter and later scheduled carrier connecting Canada and the UK with a direct-sales, no-travel-agent business model. Headquartered in Ottawa, it expanded scheduled service across Europe, the Caribbean and South America and briefly held a codeshare with Flyglobespan in the 2006/2007 winter season.

Current Operations

Zoom Airlines ceased to exist in 2008: rising fuel costs and a worsening economic climate pushed the airline into financial collapse, and on 28 August 2008 it filed for protection under Canada's Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and grounded its entire fleet immediately, stranding thousands of passengers. The airline was never revived and has had no successor operating under its name.
