History

Airnorth was formed in 1978 through the merger of several small Northern Territory charter operators and introduced scheduled services in 1981. It launched its first international route to East Timor in 2000 and introduced jet aircraft in 2007, growing into a principal regional carrier for northern Australia. Note: our source data also listed a Lebanese carrier, 'Trans Mediterranean Airlines', under IATA code TL; that airline (later relaunched as TMA Cargo) ceased operations in 2014 and is not the current real-world holder of the TL code, which multiple live flight-tracking and airline-registry sources confirm belongs to Airnorth today.

Current Operations

Airnorth operates Embraer 120, 170 and 190 aircraft on scheduled and charter services across the Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia, with international routes to East Timor and Indonesia, plus codeshare and interline links with Qantas and Malaysia Airlines.
