History

Sriwijaya Air was founded on 7 November 2002 and began flying on 10 November 2003 from Jakarta, growing into one of Indonesia's larger low-cost domestic carriers on a fleet of Boeing 737s and building a sister brand, NAM Air, alongside it.

Current Operations

Sriwijaya Air continues to fly a reduced network of domestic and regional routes from its Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta) base, though it has operated under significant strain: the fatal January 2021 crash of Flight 182, pandemic-driven losses, and a 2022 debt-restructuring (PKPU) process have led to major fleet and route cuts and operations effectively merged with NAM Air.
