History
Nile Air was incorporated in Egypt in 2008 and received its Air Operator's Certificate on 1 November 2009, beginning wet-leased flying in August 2010 before launching its own scheduled services in March 2011 with routes to Saudi Arabia. The airline is majority-backed by Saudi businessman Dr. Nasser Al Tayyar, whose Al Tayyar Travel Group (now Seera) holds a substantial stake, and it grew steadily through the 2010s to become Egypt's largest privately owned airline, second only to flag carrier EgyptAir. In 2017 it was named the official airline of the Egyptian national football team, reflecting its rising profile in the domestic market.
Current Operations
Nile Air operates an all-Airbus fleet of A320-200 and A321-200 aircraft from its base at Cairo International Airport, running a full-service, two-class (business and economy) operation to destinations across the Middle East, the Gulf, Southern Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is not a member of Star Alliance, oneworld, or SkyTeam, but maintains bilateral codeshare and interline agreements with a number of international carriers.
