History
Albanian Airlines traced its roots to Arberia Airlines, founded in May 1991 and renamed Albanian Airlines in 1992; it was Albania's first private post-communist carrier and initially operated as a joint venture with Austrian's Tyrolean Airways before Kuwaiti investors took control in the mid-1990s. It later modernized its fleet with Western jets and came under Turkish ownership in 2009 as it pursued wider European expansion.
Current Operations
The airline no longer exists. Albania's Civil Aviation Authority revoked its operating license on 10 November 2011 after mounting financial and operational difficulties, ending two decades of service from Tirana.
