Air Bosna

History

B&H Airlines traces its origins to Air Bosna, established in May 1994 during the Bosnian War and officially registered on 12 August 1994 as the intended flag carrier of the newly independent Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ad hoc leased flights began in August 1996 and scheduled services followed in February 1997, but the airline struggled financially and suspended operations in September 2003. It was relaunched in June 2005 with leased ATR 72 aircraft and renamed B&H Airlines in June 2006, with the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina government holding the overwhelming majority stake. Turkish Airlines took a 49% stake in October 2008 but exited the joint venture in June 2012, leaving the carrier without a strong strategic partner as it entered its final years.

Current Operations

B&H Airlines no longer exists as an operating airline. Weighed down by debts reported at over US$17 million, it flew its last commercial service on 11 June 2015 and its Air Operator's Certificate was revoked shortly after, on 2 July 2015, ending Bosnia and Herzegovina's national carrier. The country has had no flag carrier since, and no successor airline has taken over its routes or code.
