History

Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise grew out of the Soviet-era air detachment serving Mirny, the Sakha Republic town built around the ALROSA diamond-mining operation, and became the dedicated carrier of the ALROSA (Almazy Rossii Sakha) mining conglomerate. A related Moscow-based entity, Alrosa Avia, flew charters out of Vnukovo from 1992 until its certificate was annulled in 2008, while the Mirny-based operation continued domestic flying. The airline drew international attention on 29 September 2010 when Alrosa Flight 514 suffered a total electrical failure and made a successful emergency landing with no fatalities, and again on 29 October 2020 when it flew the last civil Tupolev Tu-154 service in Russian aviation history.

Current Operations

Alrosa continues to operate scheduled and chartered domestic passenger flights within Russia, centered on the diamond-mining towns of Mirny, Udachny and Lensk in the Sakha Republic. Like all Russian carriers it has been barred from operating into European Union airspace since 2022. It remains wholly owned by the ALROSA mining company and functions as a niche regional operator rather than a national carrier.
