The Swedish Air Force Museum documents the history of Swedish military aviation from 1912 to the present day at the former Malmen airfield near Linköping. It is run by the government agency Swedish National Museums of Military History and was named Swedish Museum of the Year in 2011.
Notable Exhibits
- Junkers Ju 86 — The only surviving example of this WWII-era Swedish Air Force bomber in the world.
- Saab J 29 Tunnan — 1950s swept-wing jet fighter nicknamed 'the Flying Barrel'.
- Douglas Tp 79 (DC-3) — Signals-intelligence aircraft shot down by a Soviet MiG-15 over the Baltic Sea in 1952.
- JAS 39 Gripen — Sweden's current multirole fighter aircraft, on display alongside a Gripen simulator.
The museum stands on the site of Malmen airfield, where Baron Carl Cederström founded Sweden's first flying school in 1912.
