South Korea's national aviation museum, run by the government, opened next to Gimpo International Airport in Seoul on July 5, 2020, timed to mark 100 years since Korea's first trained pilots earned their wings. Housed in a jet-engine-shaped building, it traces the century-long development of Korean civil, commercial and military aviation.
Notable Exhibits
- Boeing 747-400 fuselage cross-section — A cutaway section of a retired Boeing 747-400 (ex-Delta Air Lines, N668US), fitted with ex-Korean Air seating.
- KAI T-50B Golden Eagle — South Korean-built supersonic jet trainer, displayed in the colors of the ROKAF Black Eagles aerobatic team.
- North American F-86F Sabre — Korean War-era jet fighter suspended in the exhibition hall.
- Boeing 747-8 fixed-base flight simulator — Interactive simulator experience for visitors.
The museum's opening date, July 5, 2020, was chosen to mark exactly 100 years since Korea's first military pilots earned their wings with the Provisional Government's air corps.
