The Icelandic Aviation Museum (Flugsafn Íslands), founded in 1999 and formally opened in June 2000, is housed in a hangar at Akureyri Airport and covers the history of aviation in Iceland through historic aircraft, photographs, and artifacts. It moved to a purpose-built 2,200-square-meter facility in 2007, roughly five times the size of its original temporary hangar, and keeps several aircraft airworthy for annual fly days.
