Transport Options at VTE
Wattay International Airport is connected to Vientiane and the wider Laos transport network by multiple ground transport options.
A public shuttle bus runs to the central bus station for 15,000 kip, with stops at key city points along the way; the trip takes about 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. An older source also mentions a 'Bus 30' running at 30-minute intervals from the central bus terminal, stopping about 500m from the terminal — confirm current routing locally, as information on Vientiane's bus system is sparse and may have changed.
Prepaid taxis and minivans operate from a counter inside the terminal — pay there and give your ticket to the driver rather than negotiating outside. Typical fares are about 7 USD (58,000 kip) for a taxi or 8.8 USD (67,000 kip) for a minivan.
The Loca app (similar to Grab) is used for both airport transfers and city rides and is generally reliable, letting you skip price negotiation with a driver.
No confirmed on-site car rental counters at the terminal; self-driving isn't the norm for visitors here, so arranging a car with driver through your hotel or a local agency is the more typical option.
Tuk-tuks are available outside, but you'll need to bargain — the prepaid taxi counter or the Loca app are more predictable if you'd rather not haggle after a long flight.
