Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa (TIA)

Getting Around

How to get to and from Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa — taxis, public transport, shuttles and car rental.

Transport Options at TIA

Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa is connected to Rinas and the wider Albania transport network by multiple ground transport options.

Bus & Shuttle

The Luna Travel airport shuttle departs every hour on the hour, 24/7, from the parking area (about a minute's walk from arrivals, near bus bays 9 and 10). The fare is 400 lek (about €4) one-way, journey time about 30 minutes, dropping off behind the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet near Skanderbeg Square. Pay the driver directly or book online at luna.al; additional buses run at peak hours. A separate hourly service also runs to the Tirana Bus Station for 300 lek.

Taxi

The Tirana Airport Taxi Service (white cars with the airport logo, operated by Auto Holiday Albania) runs a fixed fare of 22 EUR to central Tirana from the taxi bay in front of arrivals, with a published price list, so there's no need to haggle. Fares to Durrës run 30–35 EUR. Inside the city, drivers switch to the meter.

Rideshare

Uber does not operate in Albania. Local apps VrapOn and Patoko dispatch licensed taxis in Tirana and will quote a price before you book, which is a reasonable way to compare against the airport's fixed fare.

Car Rental

Agencies list on the airport's own website; expect at least 20–25 EUR per day, more in summer. The drive into the center takes about 30 minutes via the SH2 highway, though the author notes driving can be unfamiliar for foreign visitors, so a bus or taxi may be the easier choice for a short stay.

Insider tip

A rail link between the airport and Durrës was under construction as of recent reports, with an expected 2026 opening — worth checking before you travel, since it would add a third option beyond the Luna Travel bus and fixed-fare taxi.

Transport routes, fares and operators change frequently. Verify current options on the official Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa website before travel.

Ground Transport Tips for TIA

Only use official taxi ranks or pre-booked apps at Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa. Avoid unofficial drivers approaching you in arrivals.
If a rail or metro connection exists, it is usually the fastest and most reliable option during rush hour.
Allow extra time for ground transport during peak hours. Rinas city traffic can significantly extend journey times.
Download offline maps for Rinas before landing — useful if your data connection is slow on arrival.
If travelling with heavy luggage, a private transfer or taxi is often more practical than public transport.
