Getting Around
How to get to and from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport — taxis, public transport, shuttles and car rental.
Transport Options at MRU
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is connected to Plaine Magnien and the wider Mauritius transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Public buses 9, 10, and 198 run between the airport, Mahébourg, Rivière des Gallets, and Port Louis every 10–20 minutes, taking 60–105 minutes for about MUR 30 — cheap, but can be impractical with luggage.
Taxis wait 24/7 outside the terminal with a desk in the Tour Operators' Hall in arrivals; there's no meter, so agree the price before setting off — a typical quoted fare to Port Louis is around MUR 1,500 for about 45 minutes.
Local apps Dodogo and Vite reportedly operate, but current coverage and reliability at the airport aren't independently confirmed; Uber and Bolt are not confirmed present in Mauritius.
Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, First, Hertz, Sixt, and local operators all have counters in the Tour Operators' Hall in arrivals.
Agree your taxi fare before getting in, since there's no meter — or book through your hotel in advance if you'd rather not negotiate on arrival.
