There is currently no direct rail link to Melbourne Airport — the long-planned Melbourne Airport Rail Link remains under construction as of 2026, so budget for SkyBus, taxi or rideshare instead.

Bus & Shuttle

SkyBus runs express to Southern Cross Station in the CBD for about AUD 22 one-way; you'll still need a tram, taxi or rideshare for the final leg to most hotels since it only drops at the one station.

Taxi

Metered taxis from the rank cost around AUD 65 under normal traffic (including the airport access fee), taking 25-30 minutes in light traffic but up to 45-60 minutes during peak periods.

Rideshare

Uber and DiDi both operate with an added airport access fee; expect roughly AUD 50-70 normally, surging to AUD 90-100 at busy times. The rideshare pickup zone is an elevated walkway above the T2/T3 car park, not curbside.

Car Rental

All major agencies have desks in the terminal; useful if you're planning to explore regional Victoria, though not necessary for a CBD-only visit given SkyBus and taxi coverage.

Insider tip

Since there's still no train, build extra buffer time for the SkyBus-plus-tram combination if you're headed beyond the CBD core — it typically adds 20-30 minutes over a direct taxi or rideshare.
