How to get to and from Muscat International Airport — taxis, public transport, shuttles and car rental.
Transport Options at MCT
Muscat International Airport is connected to Muscat/Seeb and the wider Oman transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Mwasalat (Oman's national bus operator) runs routes from a ground-floor station just outside the terminal, including a link toward Ruwi bus station in central Muscat; fares are inexpensive but frequency is limited compared to a city metro, so check the Mwasalat schedule in advance.
Official airport taxis and fixed-price booths operate from the arrivals hall; fares to central Muscat/Ruwi area typically run roughly OMR 5-8 depending on distance, with the trip taking about 30-45 minutes. Not all taxis run meters, so agree the fare (or use a fixed-price booth) before getting in.
Careem is the dominant ride-hailing app in Muscat and works reliably from the airport; Otaxi is a cheaper local alternative, especially for longer trips. Uber does not operate in Oman.
Major international rental agencies (Europcar, Avis, Budget, Sixt, Thrifty, Enterprise, Dollar) plus local operators have 24-hour counters in the arrivals hall.
Because Uber isn't available, download Careem (or Otaxi) before you land — the arrivals taxi queue can get chaotic during peak international bank landings, and pre-booking a Careem pickup avoids the wait and any fare haggling.
