Airport HistoryEst. 1996

Liangjiang Airport was built to replace the older Guilin Qifengling Airport and opened on 1 October 1996 after roughly three years of construction. A major second terminal completed in 2018 more than doubled its capacity, and the airport now serves as the primary hub for Air Guilin, handling growing tourist traffic to the Guilin region's famous karst landscapes.

1991
Project Approved

In September 1991 China's State Council and Central Military Commission approve a 1.85-billion-yuan project to build a new airport for Guilin, replacing the older Qifengling Airport.

1993
Construction Begins

Construction of the new airport at Liangjiang begins in July 1993.

1996
Airport Opens

Liangjiang Airport opens on 1 October 1996 with a 3,200-meter runway, a 50,000 m² terminal, and 20 gate positions, becoming Guilin's new civil aviation hub.

2015
Terminal 2 Construction Starts

Construction of a new Terminal 2, costing about 3.258 billion yuan, begins in December 2015, with a planned capacity of 12 million passengers and 95,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

2018
Terminal 2 Opens

From 30 September 2018 all flights move from Terminal 1 to the new 100,000 m² Terminal 2.

2025
Continued Traffic Growth

Annual traffic rises to about 6.5 million passengers, advancing the airport to the 48th-busiest in mainland China (up from 49th, 5.93 million passengers, in 2024).
