Transport Options at KMG
Kunming Changshui International Airport is connected to Kunming and the wider China transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Kunming Metro Line 6 runs directly from Changshui Airport into the city, connecting at East Railway Station to Lines 1/2 for the wider network; the ride to the city center takes roughly 25–30 minutes and costs around 7–10 RMB depending on your stop.
Airport shuttle buses run from the arrivals hall to several city points, including Kunming Railway Station and the Xiaoximen long-distance bus station, for around 20–25 RMB.
Metered taxis queue at an official rank outside arrivals; expect roughly 45–60 minutes and 80–100 RMB to the city center depending on traffic, since Changshui sits well outside town.
Didi is the dominant app, but it requires a Chinese phone number and (usually) a China-registered payment method to book, so foreign travelers without a local SIM often can't use it without help from a hotel or local contact.
Domestic firms (Shouqi, eHi, eZZY) and some international chains operate counters in the terminal.
Line 6 is the fastest, most predictable way downtown — skip the taxi rank if you're not in a rush, since road traffic into Kunming can be unpredictable. If you plan to use Didi, sort it out before you land (a friend books it remotely, or use your hotel's help) rather than trying to register cold at the curb.
