Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)

Getting Around

How to get to and from Heydar Aliyev International Airport — taxis, public transport, shuttles and car rental.

Transport Options at GYD

Heydar Aliyev International Airport is connected to Baku and the wider Azerbaijan transport network by multiple ground transport options.

Bus & Shuttle

The H1 Aero Express runs from both terminals to 28 May metro station (where the Baku Metro begins) for 1.30 AZN, about every 20 minutes from 06:00–23:15 and roughly every 45 minutes overnight, 24/7. It requires a BakiKart card (2 AZN from a vending machine outside Terminal 1) — cash isn't accepted on board.

Taxi

Baku Taxi is the only state-licensed operator at the airport, with an official fare of roughly 25–40 AZN bookable at the Terminal 1 booth, by phone, or via app; avoid unlicensed touts in arrivals and confirm the meter runs from the start.

Rideshare

Bolt and Yango both operate, typically 10–25 AZN — agree the fare in-app before riding; Yango generally takes cards while some Bolt drivers prefer cash.

Car Rental

No specific in-terminal rental desk list was independently confirmed; arrange a rental with an international chain's Baku office in advance rather than expecting a guaranteed counter.

Insider tip

Stick to Baku Taxi's official booth or an app (Bolt/Yango) rather than curbside touts, and keep a BakiKart topped up if you plan to use the H1 bus.

Transport routes, fares and operators change frequently. Verify current options on the official Heydar Aliyev International Airport website before travel.

Ground Transport Tips for GYD

Only use official taxi ranks or pre-booked apps at Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Avoid unofficial drivers approaching you in arrivals.
If a rail or metro connection exists, it is usually the fastest and most reliable option during rush hour.
Allow extra time for ground transport during peak hours. Baku city traffic can significantly extend journey times.
Download offline maps for Baku before landing — useful if your data connection is slow on arrival.
If travelling with heavy luggage, a private transfer or taxi is often more practical than public transport.
