Best use of a long layover

The Greenland National Museum and Nuuk Art Museum are both within central Nuuk, easily reached given the airport's roughly 3.7km proximity to downtown -- one of the shortest airport-to-city distances in this dataset.

Inside the airport

Only a duty-free shop and a cafe/seating area are confirmed; no further in-terminal activity was found.

No airport-specific hotel was confirmed, but downtown Nuuk is close enough (about 3.7km) that any central hotel functions as a practical option for an overnight.

Greenland sits outside Schengen despite being part of the Danish realm, with its own visa rules distinct from Denmark. Nordic, EU/EEA, and Swiss citizens (up to 90 days within 180), along with US, Canadian, and Australian citizens among others, need no visa; other nationalities may need a Greenland-specific visa from a Danish mission rather than a Schengen visa.

Transit visa requirements vary by nationality and change frequently. Always verify with the official embassy or consulate of Greenland before travel.

Practical Tips for Your GOH Layover

Use left-luggage storage at Nuuk International Airport if you plan to leave the terminal — most airports offer coin lockers or staffed storage near arrivals.

Get a Greenland eSIM before your layover so you have data for maps and translation the moment you land.

Download offline maps for Nuuk in advance — useful if you leave the terminal and connectivity is patchy.

Always allow at least 3 hours buffer before your next departure when leaving the airport — immigration queues are unpredictable.

Check your next airline's check-in deadline. Some require you to be at the gate 45–60 minutes before departure.
