Getting Around
How to get to and from Cheddi Jagan International Airport — taxis, public transport, shuttles and car rental.
Transport Options at GEO
Cheddi Jagan International Airport is connected to Georgetown and the wider Guyana transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Route 42 minibuses run to the city, though service is infrequent with minimal luggage space and often standing-room only.
Metered taxis wait at the forecourt rank, with the official CIJA Taxi Company operating marked, badged vehicles and posted flat rates per destination; fares are negotiable and surge at peak hours. The airport is about 41–43km from Georgetown, normally a 45-minute drive but 60–75 minutes at peak traffic (7–9am, 4–6pm).
No rideshare app is confirmed to operate in Georgetown.
Alamo, Enterprise, and National are all represented locally through the agent Massy Industry, with a counter in the Temporary Arrivals Terminal Building; note a temporary Guyanese driver's licence from the Customs Department is required to drive.
Use the official CIJA taxi desk rather than an unmarked car, and budget extra time if you're travelling during Georgetown's peak traffic hours.
