Getting Around
How to get to and from Lungi International Airport — taxis, public transport, shuttles and car rental.
Transport Options at FNA
Lungi International Airport is connected to Freetown (Lungi-Town) and the wider Sierra Leone transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Public and private buses connect Lungi with Freetown and other parts of the country, though no fixed schedule or fare could be confirmed.
There is no taxi route directly into Freetown — the airport sits across the Sierra Leone River estuary from the city. Reaching Freetown means a government ferry (about 1 hour, the cheapest option), a private water taxi/speedboat such as Sea Bird Express (roughly 30-40 minutes to Aberdeen, about $45), or a road trip around the estuary that can take up to 4 hours.
No confirmed car rental desks at the airport.
Budget at least 3 hours and roughly $45-80 in ferry or water-taxi fares (plus immigration time) to actually reach Freetown — this is the single most important planning detail for this airport. A helicopter shuttle that once offered a faster alternative ended after a fatal 2007 crash and hasn't been replaced.
