A beach stop in the Hotel Zone (Playa Delfines is a solid free option, roughly 35–50 minutes from the airport depending on traffic) or a walk through downtown Cancún's Mercado 28 for a more local feel.

Inside the airport

Terminal food courts and duty-free cover the basics, but there's no standout attraction airside — with the beach only 35–50 minutes away, most travelers with real time on their hands head out rather than linger in the terminal.

Hyatt Place Cancún Airport opened recently just outside the terminal (a short shuttle transfer, not a walk-in connection) and is the most convenient pick for an overnight or long layover without committing to a Hotel Zone stay.

Most Western passport holders (US, Canada, EU, UK, and others) enter Mexico visa-free as tourists and only need the FMM tourist form, which is usually issued automatically or handled at immigration — check your own nationality's status, since not everyone is exempt, and keep the stamped form until you leave.

Transit visa requirements vary by nationality and change frequently. Always verify with the official embassy or consulate of Mexico before travel.
