Getting Around

A Tren Maya (Maya Train) station sits within the airport grounds, reached by a free inter-terminal shuttle. It's useful for onward travel toward Playa del Carmen, Tulum and points beyond, but it does not serve the Hotel Zone or downtown Cancún directly, so it's not a practical option for a typical hotel transfer.

ADO operates frequent shared buses from Terminals 2, 3 and 4 (Terminal 1 boards just outside the building) to the downtown ADO bus station and other cities. A downtown Cancún fare runs around 98 MXN (roughly $5-6 USD), buses about every 30-45 minutes; USD is accepted but change comes back in pesos. Confirm the specific route/stop if you need the Hotel Zone, since buses terminate downtown by default.

Only airport-licensed taxis dispatched from the official terminal booth may pick up passengers; fares are effectively fixed by zone and run roughly $40-70 USD to the Hotel Zone. Always confirm the total price at the official counter — prices quoted by touts inside the terminal are frequently inflated or unauthorized.

Uber operates around Cancún generally but is officially barred from picking passengers up at the airport terminals due to conflict with the local taxi union (drop-offs at the airport are fine). Most visitors instead use ADO, an official airport taxi, or a pre-booked private transfer for the arrival leg.

Major international and local rental agencies have counters in the arrivals areas of Terminals 3 and 4; inspect the vehicle carefully and confirm insurance/add-on costs, as aggressive upselling at the counter is common.
