Transport Options at BHX
Birmingham Airport is connected to Birmingham, West Midlands and the wider United Kingdom transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Birmingham Airport connects to Birmingham International railway station via the free Air-Rail Link, a monorail-style shuttle running roughly 03:30–00:30 daily. From there, direct trains reach Birmingham New Street in about 10 minutes, with up to 4 an hour on Avanti West Coast, West Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, and CrossCountry — the station also gives fast access to London Euston (around 70 minutes) and the wider national network.
Local bus services connect the airport to Solihull and surrounding areas, but for the city center the train via the Air-Rail Link is faster and more direct than any bus route.
An official rank operates outside the terminal; a taxi to Birmingham city center (about 15–20 minutes depending on traffic) typically costs £25–35.
Uber and Bolt both operate in Birmingham and pick up from a designated area at the airport, usually cheaper than a rank taxi for the same city-center run.
All the major chains (Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Enterprise, etc.) operate from a rental village a short shuttle-bus ride from the terminal.
Don't bother with a taxi or rideshare for the city center — the free Air-Rail Link plus a 10-minute train to New Street is faster, cheaper, and avoids the M42/A45 traffic that can make road transfers unpredictable at peak times.
