Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI)

Getting Around

How to get to and from Grantley Adams International Airport — taxis, public transport, shuttles and car rental.

Transport Options at BGI

Grantley Adams International Airport is connected to Bridgetown and the wider Barbados transport network by multiple ground transport options.

Bus & Shuttle

The Transport Board's bus station is on Tom Adams Highway, about a 5-minute walk from the terminal. The standard flat fare is BBD 2.00 one-way on Transport Board buses (exact change, no foreign currency); privately-run minibuses and ZR vans cover similar routes with a conductor who can make change, and may charge somewhat more.

Taxi

About 280 licensed taxis, identified by a yellow sticker, operate from a government-regulated fare board posted at the airport — expect roughly BBD 74 (about US$23-25) to Bridgetown. Confirm the quoted price with the dispatcher before you get in; cards aren't guaranteed to be accepted.

Rideshare

Uber launched across Barbados on 31 October 2025 — its first entry into the Eastern Caribbean — with Uber Reserve (bookable up to 90 days ahead) pitched specifically for airport transfers. It's brand new here, so driver availability may still be inconsistent compared with more established markets.

Car Rental

Courtesy Car Rentals, Drive-A-Matic and Stoute's Car Rental have desks in the arrivals hall; Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Sixt, Thrifty, Dollar and Budget are also represented, some via off-site delivery.

Insider tip

Uber is too new here to assume it's always available — the government-regulated yellow-sticker taxis, with fares posted at the airport, remain the dependable fallback.

Ground Transport Tips for BGI

Only use official taxi ranks or pre-booked apps at Grantley Adams International Airport. Avoid unofficial drivers approaching you in arrivals.
If a rail or metro connection exists, it is usually the fastest and most reliable option during rush hour.
Allow extra time for ground transport during peak hours. Bridgetown city traffic can significantly extend journey times.
Download offline maps for Bridgetown before landing — useful if your data connection is slow on arrival.
If travelling with heavy luggage, a private transfer or taxi is often more practical than public transport.
