Getting Around

There is no rail link to the airport — Addis Ababa's light rail network doesn't reach Bole, so road transport is the only option for the roughly 6km trip into the city.

Public buses serve the wider city but aren't a realistic option straight off a long-haul flight — better suited to travelers already familiar with the routes.

Blue-and-white official taxis wait at the arrivals rank without meters — agree the fare clearly before the taxi pulls away, since initial quotes tend to run higher than local rates. Expect 20-40 minutes depending on traffic.

Ride and Feres are the two main local ride-hailing apps (Ethiopia's Uber-equivalents), offering fixed upfront pricing — generally the simplest way to avoid fare negotiation entirely.

Self-drive is uncommon; most arrangements come with a driver who knows local road conditions, which is the more practical choice for visitors.
