History

Island Air began in 1980 as Princeville Airways, a small Kauai-based carrier, and was acquired by the Aloha Air Group in 1987 before passing through several later ownership changes, including a 2013 purchase by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and a 2016 sale to PacifiCap.

Current Operations

Island Air ceased all inter-island flights between Honolulu, Kahului, Līhuʻe and Kona on November 11, 2017, ending 37 years of service after mounting financial losses and an inability to refinance its leased Bombardier Q400 fleet; it does not currently operate.
