History
Air Zimbabwe traces its roots to Air Rhodesia, founded in 1967, and was renamed Air Zimbabwe at independence in 1980. The state-owned carrier has weathered repeated financial crises, unpaid debts and route suspensions since the 2000s amid Zimbabwe's broader economic difficulties, including an EU safety blacklisting in 2017.
Current Operations
Air Zimbabwe operates a reduced fleet of Boeing 767 and Airbus A320 aircraft, supplemented by Boeing 777-200s received from Malaysia Airlines from 2020, on domestic routes linking Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls and regional service to Johannesburg, having worked since the early 2020s to clear IATA debts and restore capacity.
