History

Aserca Airlines was founded in 1968 and began commercial service in 1992, expanding rapidly after the 1997 collapse of Venezuela's flag carrier Viasa. Based in Valencia with a secondary hub in Caracas, it built a domestic and Caribbean/South American network, at one point taking a controlling stake in Air Aruba and forming the Grupo Cóndor commercial alliance with SBA Airlines in 2008.

Current Operations

Aserca suspended all flights in May 2018 after financial difficulties and a lapse in insurance documentation grounded its fleet. In June 2026 former CEO Simeón García announced plans to relaunch the carrier with an Airbus A320 fleet, but as of this writing the airline was still awaiting a new Venezuelan air operator's certificate and had not resumed commercial service.
