History

The airline's lineage traces back to Air Holland, founded in 1981, which after financial trouble was reorganized as HollandExel in 2004 before being acquired by Germany's TUI Group in 2005 and relaunched as ArkeFly, a Dutch charter carrier flying for the TUI tour operator brand. ArkeFly changed its public-facing marketing name to "Arke" in October 2013, and then, as part of a group-wide TUI rebranding, the airline was renamed TUI fly Netherlands (also written TUI Airlines Netherlands) on 1 October 2015 — the identity under which it still operates today, though it retains IATA code OR from its ArkeFly days.

Current Operations

Operating as TUI fly Netherlands, the carrier is based at Schiphol-Rijk at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and flies scheduled and chartered leisure routes predominantly for TUI Netherlands customers to destinations across the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, the Red Sea, the Caribbean (including the Dutch Caribbean), Mexico, Africa and the Middle East. Its fleet is built around Boeing 737s (with 737 MAX deliveries underway) after retiring its last Boeing 767-300ER in November 2024; it previously also flew Boeing 787-8s on long-haul leisure routes. It remains a wholly owned subsidiary of the TUI Group and is not part of any of the major airline alliances.
