History

Mauritania Airlines International was set up in December 2010 as the country's new national carrier following the collapse of its predecessor Mauritania Airways (which had itself replaced the original flag carrier Air Mauritanie). The airline overcame early safety concerns that had placed it on the European Union's airline blacklist, being removed from that list in December 2012, and in April 2018 it simplified its name to Mauritania Airlines.

Current Operations

Mauritania Airlines operates a small fleet of around six aircraft — Boeing 737-700, 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 jets alongside Embraer ERJ-145 and E175 regional jets — from its hub at Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport, serving around 15 destinations across West and Central Africa plus Spain. It is the only carrier currently operating domestic flights within Mauritania and maintains a codeshare agreement with Royal Air Maroc along with interline partnerships, but it does not belong to any of the major global alliances.
