History

DAT (Danish Air Transport) was founded in 1989 as a cargo airline and moved into passenger charter flying in 1994, launching scheduled passenger services on 18 November 1996. Headquartered in Vamdrup near Billund, it grew as an independent regional and charter carrier, later shortening its legal name to the abbreviation DAT and establishing a Lithuanian subsidiary, DAT LT, in 2003.

Current Operations

DAT remains an independently operated Danish airline flying scheduled and charter passenger services, including routes within Denmark (such as to Bornholm) and wet-lease/contract flying in Norway, Italy and Germany; it has continued to win regional contracts into 2025-2026, including an extended Voli di Sicilia service in Italy (through March 2026) and new Ancona routes launched under the Voli delle Marche brand in November 2025. It is not part of a global alliance, though it has taken on codeshare and wet-lease partnerships, including with Lufthansa.
