History

Aeroflot-Nord was formed in August 2004 as a regional subsidiary flying under the Aeroflot brand, based in Arkhangelsk (ICAO code AUL, callsign Dvina). When its franchise contract with Aeroflot ended on December 1, 2009, it continued independently, renamed Nordavia.

Current Operations

The carrier operates today as Smartavia, a name adopted in 2019 after a planned merger with Red Wings fell through. Smartavia flies domestic Russian routes from bases in Arkhangelsk, Pulkovo (Saint Petersburg) and Sheremetyevo (Moscow), and, like other Russian carriers, has been on the EU's list of banned airlines since 2022.
