Airline Identity
History
Fly540 was founded in Kenya in 2006 as a low-cost carrier and expanded through franchised sister operations in Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana and Angola, becoming one of East Africa's pioneering budget airlines. The group struggled through the 2010s and 2020s with ownership disputes, regulatory action and mounting debt.
Current Operations
Fly540 is no longer conducting commercial flights: its Kenyan Air Operator Certificate lapsed in September 2022 and Kenya's Competition Authority subsequently ordered it to stop selling tickets. In 2026 the airline was placed under receivership by a creditor bank following years of financial and legal difficulties.
